Many of the critics of the online casino industry claim that online gambling is bad, especially because people lose all their money while playing online. According to them, most people that enter an online casino do it because they want to win big money, fast and easy. Nevertheless, all those critics should looks at a recent research, made by the UK's eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance, which says exactly the opposite. The research, which was conducted by researchers from the International Gaming Research Unit and Nottingham Trent University, questioned 10,865 people from 96 countries, and came out with some really interesting results. According to the results, the main attractions when playing at an online casino are the convenience and entertainment, not the money.
The study also found that online casino poker is played mostly by men (74%), and the average playing session takes around 2 hours. Of these players, more than 25% were aged 26-35. When it comes to other online casino games women are a much more dominant force (55%), and especially when it comes to playing slots (80%). The average playing sessions of this group was also around 2 hours, 2-3 times a week
Most of the people that were interviewed during the research reported gains or losses of around $130 a month, which clearly shows that the stigma being created of people losing all their money at the online casino is incorrect. In fact, only 8.2% of the respondents said that they play at an online casino to win, or gain, financial reward.
